Event Details
The "tale" begins with a 2-hundred-year-old log cabin starting its life on land that was confiscated from a British sympathizer following the Revolutionary War. Over the years, many different people both owned and rented the cabin including a weaver and a barber. But in 1820 a widower Priest, the Rev. William Duke, and his daughter, purchased the cabin, moved in, and established a school there. They would spend the next 20 years living in this 4-room structure until Duke’s death in 1840.
As for the cabin, by the early 21st century it was clear that it could not be saved. So, what happened to it and who was Rev. Duke? Eric Mease, Historical Society of Cecil County trustee, will review the history of both the cabin and the Priest and explore some common myths about both.
