Local historian Mike Dixon will discuss the history of the waterways in Cecil County and how they evolved over the centuries. From the earliest navigation on waterways at places such as Frenchtown, where the first steamboat arrived and British marines attacked during the War of 1812, to how the rivers shaped the economy, culture, and communities, transforming Cecil County into a popular summertime destination as small resorts sprang up on the Elk, Northeast, Bohemia and Sassafras rivers.
