George Washington Slept Here: His Cecil County Connections

Although his home is over 100 miles away on the Potomac River, George Washington ate, slept, and traveled the roads of Cecil County. Local historian, Mike Dixon, will explore Washington's correspondence, personal relationships, and the homes he visited. This program was in conjunction with “The Many Faces of George Washington,” a national traveling panel exhibition produced by the Mount Vernon’s Ladies’ Association in conjunction with the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History and was supported by a generous grant from the F.M. Kirby Foundation. Special thanks to our publicity partners, Elk Landing, Mount Harmon and the Historical Society of Cecil County.
