Construction Update: Weather-tight Structure

We’ve hit a major milestone!  The building is now weather-tight so we can start work inside.  Walls are going up and the wiring and pipes are being installed.  There’s still work to be done outside, such as final exterior finishes and installation of rooftop solar panels.

We’re pleased to let you know that construction is very much on track and that we still anticipate opening the new North East Branch Library to the public in early 2021! We commend CCPL’s construction firm, Wohlsen, for their efforts to maintain a safe and productive worksite these past few months.

We’re pleased to introduce Bob Payne, owner of Cecil County owned company Terracon, Inc., who is our site contractor. Bob has owned and operated Terracon for 15 years.
The original town hall, circa 1970, included the police station on the first floor and the cozy 300 square foot library on the second floor.

History of the North East Branch Library

The story of the North East Branch Library is the embodiment of decades of work by people who wanted more for their community. The roots of this dedication can be traced to a determined group of local women who in 1950 petitioned the county to fund a branch of the Cecil County Public Library (CCPL) for the town of North East.
